Light Graffiti Artist Statement Michelle Dailey     Light painting is a form of visual art that requires precise photographic skill, choreography, and a wild imagination. Light painting is painting with light, or light drawing, a photography technique of moving a light source while taking a long exposure. Light painting is a genre that has been growing in popularity over the last several years, and artists are embracing the style of making marks with streaks of light set against pitch-black backgrounds.    Pablo Picasso, one of the 20 th  century’s greatest artists, experimented with light painting in his later days. He stood in front of a camera with a flashlight and traced his style of imagery in the air before the shutter shut. The results were illuminating sets of portraits where light framed the painter showing the artist at work. Picasso’s light graffiti portraits served as inspiration for my light painting project; I wanted to challenge myself technically as a photographer and c
